What size trolling lure should I use?

Small 7–8" lures are best for mahi and school-size tuna. Medium ~10" lures cover mixed spreads for mahi, tuna and wahoo. Large 15" lures are built for marlin, big tuna and bull mahi.

What are the best lures for tuna trolling?

Bullet and resin-head lures in the 7–10 inch range that track straight and throw a tight smoke trail. Blue/white, purple/black and pink are proven tuna colors. Troll between 6.5 and 8.5 knots.

What lures work best for wahoo?

Wahoo hit fast, so run stable bullet-head lures like the Speeder or Striker at 7–12 knots. Dark colors such as purple/black and red/black stand out well against the surface.

What size lure should I use for marlin?

Large 15" resin lures like the Cruiser and Falcon give marlin a big, visible target. Run them at 6–8.5 knots so they dive, smoke and surface in a steady rhythm.

How fast should I troll offshore?

How many lures should I run in my spread?

Four to six lures is a solid offshore spread. Put heavier, stable lures in the corners where prop wash is strongest, and more active lures on the riggers and shotgun where the water is cleaner.

How should I care for my offshore lures?

Rinse lures with fresh water after every trip, inspect hooks and leaders regularly, and store them in a dry location away from direct sunlight.
